| Description of the cottage
|
Alma Cottage has great character and is of the highest quality - VisitBritain 4 stars. Dating back to the 18th Century, it has low beamed ceilings and stone stairs, but a high standard of modern comforts. In winter the cast-iron stove is a cosy addition to the central heating, while in summer the south-facing stone-walled garden is a real sun trap.
The cottage has one double bedroom and two twin rooms, a bathroom with walk-in shower and bidet, living room, dining room and kitchen with breakfast table. There's also a utility room and a downstairs loo. There's a cot and high chair if needed, together with lots of toys, books and videos for children - some for adults too.
A few yards down the lane there's a large playing field with play equipment for children. You'll find the tennis courts here, too. There's a riding stable a mile or two away.
Outside there's a south-facing walled garden which is perfect for children's play, or for meals outside or barbecues. There's a lockable garage for your car, and off-street parking for two more cars if needed.
The village of Kirkby Malzeard is a friendly one, and guests particularly like our local pub, the Indian food at the Queen's Head, and the high-class butcher's shop across the road. Fish and chips, a light lunch or tea, or a full evening meal are all available in our street.
Our nearest town is Ripon, but Harrogate and York are easily accessible for days out. We keep a big file showing the huge range of tourist sites in the neighbourhood. Fountains Abbey, which is very close, is a specially great attraction with a range of activities for young and old.
The wonderful scenery of the moors and dales surrounds the village - you can hear the curlew call from our garden! Many local stately homes, heritage sites, gardens, market towns, picturesque villages and a wealth of other attractions leave most of our guests eager to come again.
Short breaks are generally available from October through to May. If you require a short break period not shown as available on the calendar, please contact the owner.
