| Description of the cottage
|
Sycamore House is a listed Westmorland longhouse which provides an ideal place to relax. All living areas are very spacious and the house has plenty of character. Much of the house is newly renovated, including the farmhouse kitchen with range cooker at one end and log burning stove at the other. There is room for up to 20 people to sit down to dinner together too.
Our quiet and peaceful village is well situated, being just a short drive from the M6 but in beautiful countryside. We are an ideal meeting place for groups wanting a central place to get together and chill out.
Sycamore House sleeps 8 in 4 double bedrooms. Two of these are ensuite, and there are also 2 further bathrooms plus an additional toilet. One of the bathrooms features a luxurious corner bath. The living room has a second log burning stove set into the huge stone fireplace. There is also a 42 inch digital TV, DVD player and a music system.
The area is suited to many outdoor activities, having both gentle or more challenging walks from the doorstep, plus ideal cycling countryside all around. In particular, the rather special day walk to the spectacular glaciated valley of High Cup Nick can be started from the house. Alternatively, you can relax in the garden, or take a short stroll to the village pub which serves good food and beer. We even have our own beer festival!
A variety of attractions are within an easy drive, including The Lakes, the Yorkshire Dales and Hadrian's Wall. The surrounding Eden Valley also offers many varied activities and sights. Just next to the village we have Cumbria's only winery, offering free tastings, or it's just a short drive to an ice cream farm! The nearby market town of Appleby has a golf course and a swimming pool.
We have plenty of outdoor space, including a field looking out over the Pennines. Here we have an undercover BBQ area with gas BBQ for guests use and plenty of seating and tables.
Sycamore House can be combined with our other properties for larger gatherings of up to 30 people, although each property is quite separate, giving each its own space.
