Description of the cottage

Woodbine Cottage lies in the idyllic Cotswold hamlet of Donnington, beautifully set in the glorious countryside of an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and within a conservation region. Totally unspoilt and peaceful, Donnington retains the charm of English village life, and is one mile from the famous market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, and close to the quintessential English villages of Bourton-On-the-Water, the Slaughters and the Swells.

Woodbine Cottage is a Grade II listed building, being of historical and architectural interest. Built of local stone, with a traditional stone-tiled roof, parts of the cottage date from the 17th century and the rest from the 19th century. Accommodating up to 4 people (plus cot), Woodbine Cottage is a cosy hideaway, nestling down a quiet lane. There is a pretty garden to the rear, fully enclosed, with roses, honeysuckle and herbs.

Accommodation is on two floors.

Lower level - A welcoming lounge, with exposed beams and a Cotswold stone fireplace. Comfortable seating and a dining table and chairs. The kitchen is excellently equipped, with hand-made, antiqued pine units, and Belfast sink.

Upper level - Double bedroom, with a beautiful iron bedstead. Views over the garden and countryside beyond. The twin bedroom is delightfully light and fresh, with two single wooden beds. The bathroom has a bath, over-bath electric shower and shower screen, W.C. and wash basin.

We provide a dishwasher; washing machine/dryer; electric double oven (one fan assisted), with ceramic hob.; microwave; television and DVD player; radio/casette/CD player; larder fridge. A high chair and travel cot can also be supplied - please specify when booking, as for hygiene reasons we do not leave these permanently at the cottage.

We also supply a range of books, board games and DVDs, along with an Information Pack with details of places to eat, drink and visit.

Donnington makes a wonderful base to explore the Cotswolds. The area is rich with historic attractions, such as Blenheim Place at Woodstock and Warwick Castle. Shakespeare's Stratford-Upon-Avon is 18 miles away, and Cheltenham Spa with its famous racecourse only 21 miles. Oxford, Bath and Cirencester are also easily reached. Many National Trust houses and gardens may be visited, and there is a wide range of activities for children. Many excellent walks criss-cross some of the finest landscapes of rolling hills and tree lined valleys, including the Donnington Way.

Ample opportunities exist for dining in restaurants or delightful village inns The nearest inn is one mile away in Broadwell, overlooking the village green and offering good food. Children are very welcome. Also within one mile is Stow-on-the-Wold with a variety of inns, restaurants and shops, incluing a Tesco supermarket.

There is parking for one car - a second car can be parked further up the lane. We regret that we do not accept pets or smokers.
